WHAT IS IT?

  • Paralysis of the face
  • Symptoms are drooping on one side of face,
  • Loss of taste, pain behind ear
  • It is diagnosed by a doctor through a physical
  • and neurological exam to see nerve function

HOW COMMON IS IT?

  • Affects both men and women
  • 1 in 70 people will experience it at some point

HOW DOES A PERSON GET IT?

  • The cause is not clear.
  • Most cases are thought to be because of cold sores
  • No good evidence that says its genetic

WHAT IS GOING WRONG?

  • Starts from the 7th cranial nerve
  • The function of this nerve is disrupted
  • The reason for this is unknown

CAN WE TREAT IT?

  • Yes, but mild cases don't require treatment
  • Treatment is medication or therapeutic options
