Metaphor

  • "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood"
  • There are many decisions to make in life.
  • Taking the right path is one of the most important decisions
  • it can determine the rest of your life.

alliteration

  • "Then took the other"
  • "Though took the other"
  • Alliteration helps the reader hear the rhythm. 
  • Alliteration can be fun and enjoyable
  • "Though as for that the passing there"

Hyperbole

"Somewhere ages and ages hence." It tells that someone has been traveling for a long time.

Repetition

  • "Two roads diverge in a yellow."
  • This phrase repeats throughout the poem. 
  • This indicates that this phrase is important.

  • the "ro" in road and the "ow" in yellow are internal rhyms.

  • Stanza 1: wood, stood, both and could

  • Stanza 1: The author is saying that two paths split.  
  • The author can only take on path.
  • He wishes that he could take both.
  • "And sorry I could not travel both".

  • He can only choose one to take..
  • "Then took the other, as just as fair, and having.
  • perhaps the better claim".

  • The author hopes to come back another day
  • so he can travel the other path.
  • The writer doesn't know if he will come back but he hopes
  • "Yet knowing how way leads on to way I
  • doubted if I should ever come back"

  • Be the one that takes an unknown path
  • Be the one to discover so others can follow 
  • Set an example for others

  • The writer has took a path that not many people have
  • He made a difference.
  • More people can travel that path now
  • "I took the one less traveled by, 
  • And that has made all the difference"
