PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
LENTICULAR GALAXIES
DEF: THE GALAXY STAGE BETWEEN ELLIPTICAL AND THE SPIRALS
2.
DESCRIPTION
Similar to spirals and ellipticals
Central buldge of stars
Evolved from elliptical
Usually very bright
3.
FACTS
15-20% of all galaxies are lenticular
When viewed on the edge it looks like a lense
Mostly made up of old, red starts
4.
LOCATION
Some theories suggest that they are found where galaxies collide
Found usually in the center of Galaxy groups and clusters
5.
HOW IT FORMS
There are multiple theories but one theory states that 2 old spiral galaxies join and create a lenticular galaxy
