resources are finite, some can be recycled, some regenerate, we have to manage carefully though

number of people that the Earth's resouirces can support indefinitely - with proper management

using resources that should be kept for future generations

poor management of renewable resources- fish, water, forests, air

meet needs of present without compromising future generations

side effect of doing something environmentally related - usually bad

pollution, or another annoyance to a third party- oil spills, traffic, toxic waste dumping

benefits a third party- property values go up if cool things are built beside it

not the firm's problem

accounting for not ruining the environment - charge more, produce less...

consumers don't really care...

not fair to firms or consumers

government pays producer on condition of a desired outcome

is it very effective though?

heavy government involvement if extreme toxins are used -chlorine

sue the companies that got you sick! I'm sure that will turn out well....

overall reduction of 'x' pollutant - firms comply or pay fines... firms can sell their credits too
