  • This memorial was built and funded by an organization called The Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Fund, which was authorized by the Congress in 1980.
  • This memorial is 246 feet and 9 inches long. It also gets roughly 3 million visits per year.

History of the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial
This memorial was built and funded by an organization called The Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Fund, which was authorized by the Congress in 1980. The Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Wall was dedicated on November 13, 1982. The Three Servicemen statue was dedicated by 1984, and the Vietnam Women's Memorial was dedicated in 1993.

Interesting Tidbits:

  • An extra statue was built alongside the memorial because the Wall was accused of being a "giant tombstone" and that it needed something more hero-like. So the late Fredrick Hart created "The Three Servicemen".
  • Near the Wall and "The Three Servicemen" was a statue made to honor the valiant women who have served in this war. This statue was made by a former Army nurse, and she sought to make these women known.
  • More than 275,000 Americans donated $9 million to the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Fund to help with the construction of the memorial.
