FACTS ON GALILEO

  • Galileo was born on February 15, 1564
  • Galileo was born in the City of Pisa in the northern region of Tuscany
  • Galileo went to the University of Pisa where he got his college education

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Invented the THERMOMETER in 1606 which measured the temperature

MAJOR ACHIEVMENTS

  • Galileo made sketches and designs for a MICROSCOPE
  • But didn't end up actually inventing it.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Invented the TELESCOPE, it was awkward to use and only magnified 30 times
  • But it was enough to make some important discoveries and it convinced
  • Him that the sun not the earth was the center of the solar system.

BELIEF

  • Galileo developed a strong belief in the copernican theory
  • which means he believed that the earth revolved around the sun.
  • Catholic Church wanted Galileo to change his mind to, everything revolves around
  • the earth.
  • Galileo didn't end up changing his mind and was held house arrest.

  • Galileo was a humanist because he believed in his thought the the sun was
  • the center of the atmosphere not the earth like the Catholics believe so
  • Galileo went against their opinion and stuck with his thought which was
  • proved.

  • Galileo's achievements affected the modern world because he proved that the
  • sun was in the middle of the solar system which helps us now because we can
  • Focus on other discoveries.
  • Galileo's invention of the telescope helps us make more discoveries of our solar
  • System
