Chronic Ulcerative Colitis

  • Inflammatory bowel disease that leads to constant inflammation and ulceration in the digestive tract.
  • This disease causes symptoms such as rectal bleeding and pain, diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss, and fever.

Causes

  • The exact cause remains unknown although it is believed that immune system malfunction is the leading cause. It is also known that poor diet and stress may aggrivate symptoms.
  • Heredity also seems to play a role in developing this condition, for individuals with past family member with this disease are more suseptiple.

Treatment

  • Ulcerative colitis treatment involves either drug therapy or surgery
  • Medications may include aminosalicylate or corticosteroids.
