Egyptian mathematics: who

  • Egyptians created it
  • Egyptians were one of the first people to practice the scientific arts 
  • Egyptians hieroglyphs are in great abundance throughout Egypt 

when

  • They first used the method around 3000 B.C 
  • The oldest mathematical text from egypt is the moscow Papyrus,which 
  • dates back from the egyptian middle kingdom 2000-1800 BC.

Multiplication:
Multiplication, for example, was achieved by a process of repeated doubling of the number to be multiplied on one side and of one on the other, essentially a kind of multiplication of binary factors similar to that used by modern computer.

hieroglyphs

  • They had different symbols (hieroglyphs) that represent the numbers  
  • For example the finger equals 10,000 and the frog is 100,000
  • Also the blue sticks represent a number like 1,2,3, or 4
