PRESENTATION OUTLINE

WHO WILL SURVIVE?

BY: DANIEL WHITESIDES AND ALEX KAYE

THE WATER DILEMMA

  • Imagine two hikers are hiking in the woods and they're parched
  • They know that farther on there is a town that can help them
  • One rabbi said that that both hikers should share the water and die
  • Better that both die than have one person watch someone else die

MORE PROBLEMS WITH WATER

  • Other rabbi says that one person should drink water and live
  • Lets other person die
  • Better to let one die and not both
  • Letting both die is waste of human life
  • Person who owns water decides who gets to drink it

ONE, OR EVERYONE?

  • Group of people must give up one person or they will all die
  • Person given up will be killed
  • Do the needs of the few out weigh the needs of the many?

FEW VS. MANY CONTINUED

  • Opinion 1: give up one person to save everyone
  • Condition 1: person must Be guilty of capital crime
  • Condition 2: person must be asked for specifically

MORE ONE OR NONE

  • Opinion 2: give up no one and everyone dies
  • Better that everyone dies than give up one person
  • Letting one person die symbolically kills your humanity
  • Better die human than to live as a monster
