BASIC KNOWLEDGE

  • Was born May 3 1469 in Florence, Italy . He was a diplomat, politician, historian, writer, and philosopher.
  • The most famous book by Machiavelli was The Prince, published in 1532.
  • Was the father of modern political theory.
  • A Machiavellian is a person who is seen slyly to manipulate a situation using shrewd political insight.
  • Pope Clement VIII condemned "The Prince" for its endorsement upon the rule of fear and deceit.

THE PRINCE

  • The book, The Prince,was based on the infamous Cesare Borgia and the Borgia family
  • Contains the belief that whoever has the most power has the right to rule,
  • To have authority over others, whether good or bad.
  • Therefore, the job of a political leader is to acquire ever more power.
  • Goodness and the right to rule aren't enough to warrant leadership.
