DEFINITION
A diverse group of unicellular eukaryotic organisms.
Single-celled with animal like behaviors such as motility and predation.
Infections caused by Protozoa are contagious.
3.
MALARIA
Common disease that spreads through mosquito bites.
More than 1300 cases reported in the US.
Reported mainly in travelers from the South Asian sub continent or Africa.
Symptoms include headache, chills, tremors, aches and shaking.
4.
TOXOPLASMOSIS
Most common parasites.
More common in those with weak immune system.
Symptoms include: body ache, fatigue, fever, sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes.
Can be mistaken for the flu.

BABESIOSIS
Caused by babesia parasite that is transmitted through ticks.
Can also be transmitted through blood transfusions.
May not show any symptoms, but symptoms may include nausea, body ache, fatigue, fever and chills.

PREVENTION
Sterilization
Drink clean water
Washing hands.
Cook food to recommended temperatures.
