History
1761 hurricane blew out eight miles of the land but Oak Island was not destroyed.
The Oak Island Lighthouse was completed in 1958
Oak Island was built to warn sailors about the Frying Pan Shoals.
Helicopters had to install the Oak Island light
Captain Charles N. Swan served the Frying Pan lightship and was the keeper of Cape Fear light and then switched to Oak Island
