HEALTH CONCERNS (DISEASES)

  • Hip and elbow dysplasia- an abnormal formation of the socket
  • It is a genetic trait that is most common in larger breeds
  • Can eventually cause crippling lameness and painful arthritis of the joints
  • Dysplasia makes it extremely difficult to move

PERSONALITY

  • More likely to run with tongues hanging out and wagging their tails
  • Not a protective breed but loyal and friendly
  • Intelligent- rated 7th overall out of 110 breeds by American Kennel Club
  • They are excellent hunting dogs

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE AND CHARACTERISTICS

  • Mature at 2 feet in height
  • Fill out between 55 and 75 pounds
  • Color is determined by genes

OTHER INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT BLACK LABS

  • Without walking the dog daily, you could have a bored lab that will chew things up
  • They have webbed feet for swimming and hunting/fetching
  • If you tell a black lab you're going to the lake you'll have his/her attention
