  • Best Known for: Leading the French against the English in the Hundred Years War at a young age

BEGINNING LIFE STEPS

  • She grew up in a small town in France.
  • Father- Jacques Mother-Isabelle
  • Joan worked on the farm with her father
  • Joan learned how to sew from her mother
  • She was very religious

VISIONS FROM GOD

  • She was 12 when her first vision came
  • She saw Michael the Arcangel
  • He told her to lead the French in the battle against the English
  • When she accomplished that, she was to take the king to be crowned at Rhemis

CONTINUATION OF VISIONS

  • Her visions continue for several more years
  • She said they were beautiful and wonderful visions from God
  • When she turned 16, she decided to take actions from her visions
  • She finally asked King Charles of France for an army
  • She asked the commander of garrison to take her to thr king

ADVENTURE TO THE KING

  • The commander laughed at her request
  • Joan did not give up
  • She got help and support from the local leaders
  • Soon the commander agreed in her request
  • He escorted her to the royal court in the city of Chinon

KING TIME

  • The king was very suspicious about Joan
  • Should he trust her or nah?
  • He figured he had nothing more to loose
  • He let Joan accompany a convoy of soldiers
  • She received many supplies from thr English Army

PRACTICING FOR WAR

  • While Joan was awaiting for the king, she learned skills
  • She started practicing for battle
  • She became a proficient fighter
  • She was an expert horse rider
  • She was more than prepared when the king allowed her to fight at war

ORLEANS BATTLE

  • She had to wait for the rest of the French army to arrive
  • Joan led the attack against the English
  • She was soon injured by an arrow wound, but she didn't stop
  • Eventually Joan and her army repelled the English to retreat
  • She won a great victory and saved the French from the English

KING CHARLES IS CROWNED

  • After winning the battle, she had only complete half of the vision
  • She needed to lead Charles to Rhemis to be crowned
  • Her and her army cleared the ways for him
  • Along the way, she gained more followers
  • When they reached Rhemis, Charles was crowned King of France

CAPTURED

  • Joan heard the city of Compiegne was under attack
  • She took a small force to defend the city
  • The drawbridge was raised and she was trapped
  • Joan was captured
  • She was later sold to the English

TRIAL TIME

  • The English held her as a priosoner
  • Her trial was for her being s religious heretic
  • They questioned her for several days
  • They convicted her for dressing as a man
  • They said that was enough to convict her for death

HER DEATH

  • Joan was burned alive at the stake
  • Her last request was for a cross
  • An English soldier gave her a small wooden cross
  • She asked witnesses to pray for her and forgive thr soldiers
  • She was 19 when she died

  • Her nick name was "The Maid of Orleans"
  • Her visions were from God
  • She had visioned herself getting hurt at the battle
  • She is a martyr of God
