ADRENALINE

DEFINITION

  • A hormone secreted by the adrenal glands
  • Happens during stressful situations
  • Is a negative feedback, as it help the body cope during stress

EFFECT ON HOMEOSTASIS

  • Increases the amount of oxygen and glucose in muscles
  • Heart rate increases
  • Pupils dilate
  • Blood sugar increases

ADRENALINE RUSH

  • Happens when body prepares for flight or flight situation
  • Happens in both imagined and physical threats
  • Ex. Strenuous exersise, heart failure, chronic stress, or anxiety
  • Transforms the amino acid tyrosine into dopamine and eventually, adrenaline
  • Binds to receptors in the heart, arteries, pancreas, liver, and muscles
