BACKGROUND RESEARCH

  • Genotype: is the name for the alleles an organism has
  • Phenotype: describes the actual characteristics that can be observed
  • Dominant: allele is one that is expressed in the phenotype
  • Recessive: is an allele that is only expressed when two copies of it are present

Hypothesis
If we choose alleles from six bags then we will be able to determine what the the offspring will look like because the genotype is located on the allele.

MATERIALS

  • Marshmallows
  • Pretzel stick
  • Candy dots
  • Air head strips
  • Frosting

PROCEDURES

  • Make data tables
  • You should have 2 sets of 6 bags each. Choose one set to represent the female parent and one set to represent the male parent.
  • Each bag contains letters written on slips of paper these letters represent the parents alleles for one trait
