Different kinds of skin conditions/problems

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

BLISTER

  • A small bubble on the skin .
  • Filled with serum
  • Caused by friction, burning, or other damage

COLD SORE

  • An inflamed blister in or near the mouth
  • Caused by infection with the herpes simplex virus
  • STAY AWAY FROM SPICE AND ACID

DECUBITUS ULCER

  • Bedsore/pressure ulcer
  • Area of skin that breaks down
  • Something presses/rubs against your skin

ERYTHEMA

  • Abnormal redness of the skin due to capillary congestion

PALLOR

  • Unhealthy paleness

JAUNDICE

  • Yellow color of the skin, mucus membranes, or eyes
  • Yellow comes from bilirubin, a byproduct of old red blood cells

BRUISE

  • Skin discoloration
  • Small blood vessels break and leak their contents into the soft tissue

SEBORRHEA

  • Dandruff when affecting scalp
  • Red, itchy rash and white scales
  • Head and Shoulders ;)

BLACKHEAD

  • Comedo
  • Tiny, dark spots on skin
  • Small plug in pore

ACNE

  • Inflamed or infected sebaceous glands
  • Happens mostly to teens

ATHLETE'S FOOT

  • Fungal infection affecting the skin between the toes
  • Form of ringworm

BOIL

  • Infection of the hair follicle
  • Furuncle
  • Painful bump full of pus

CONTACT DERMATITIS

  • Red, sore, or inflamed after direct contact with a substance
  • Irritant or Allergic

IMPETIGO

  • Red sores primarily found around small children's mouths and noses
  • Highly contagious

PSORIASIS

  • Thick, red skin with flaky, silver-white patches, scales
  • Cells build up rapidly

SHINGLES

  • Herpes zoster
  • Painful, blistering skin rash due to the varicella-zoster
  • Zarciella zoster=virus that causes chickenpox

MOLE

  • Fleshy mass or tumor te
  • Formed in the uterus by the degeneration/abnormal development of a zygote
  • Melanoma

WART

  • Small, usually painless growths on the skin
  • Caused by human papillomavirus (HPV)
  • May itch or hurt

RINGWORM

  • Contagious itching skin disease
  • Circular patches
  • Fungal infection
