FORT SUMTER

  • A FIGHT BROKE OUT IN FORT SUMTER AFTER ABRAHAM LINCOLN WAS ELECTED .
  • Over 5,000 soldiers fought.
  • They evenly surrendered.

FIRST BATTLE OF BULL RUN

  • July 1861 the union and confederate armies clashed near Manassas Junction.
  • The southern troops inspired by Thomas Jackson fought back.
  • This battle showed that the war was not going to be an easy victory.

BATTLE OF ANTIETAM

  • LEE LEFT BEHIND A BATTLE STRATEGY WHICH SAID THEY WERE GOING TO ATTACK HARPERS FAIRY.
  • It was the bloodiest one day battle.

BATTLE OF SHILOH

  • Each side lost and gained ground.
  • The win helped the union control part of the Mississippi River valley.

SIEGE OF vICKSBURG

  • Union troops reached Vicksburg.
  • Vicksburg was located on cliffs high above the Mississippi River.
  • It's lasted about six weeks before hunger forced the confederates to surrender.

CLARA BARTON

  • Provided medical care for the soldiers.
  • Formed the organization that would be come the American Red Cross.

BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG

  • It started by General Lee trying to attack the north.
  • The battle only lasted 6 weeks.
  • The union won the battle.
