  • The state animal for Utah is the Rocky Mountain Elk it became the state animal in 1971.
  • They can grow up to 5' to the shoulder and weigh up to 600-1200 pounds.
  • Thier antlers grow up to 6' and weigh up to 50 pounds.

  • Utahans relate the beehive symbol to industry and the pioneer virtues of thrift and perseverance.
  • The beehive was chosen as part of the state seal's emblem.
  • The early Morman settlers wanted Utah Territory to be called "Deseret" which means "honeybee" in the Book of Morman.
