SOLAR TECHNOLOGY

HOW DOES SOLAR TECH WORK ?

Energy from the sun is converted into direct current electricity through solar panels made of photovoltaic cells. The DC electricity generated by the solar panels convert into the alternating current electricity.

Solar energy be used to light homes, produce hot water, heat homes, and electricity. Examples of its use include Photo-voltaic, Solar Heating, Artificial Photosynthesis, Solar Architecture and Solar Thermal Energy.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS

WHAT IMPACTS ARE APPARENT/ OR HIDDEN?

IMPACTS

  • Large utility scale solar facilities can raise concerns about land degration and habitat.
  • CSP require water for cooling and use 600-650 gallons of water.
  • Solar energy canr be used at night. Sunlight depends on location, time of day/year and weather locations.
  • PV cell manufacturing process includes harmful chemicals.
  • Workers could face inhaling silicon dust. During the solar lifestyle PV system emit .07-.18 lbs of CO2

How is solar technology accepted today? It is commonly accepted because it does not produce pollution and helps combat the green house effect. Solar panels are the most commonly used renewable resource because it is maintenance free and last for years.

So what's the problem?
The cost of solar panels range from 15,000 to 40,000 even through tax breaks and incentives for usage of solar energy.
