2.
SPEED
Speed is the distance traveled by an object divided by the time taken to travel the distance
Formula: Speed = distance/time
A biker rode 40 meters(m) in 20 seconds(s), what is his speed?
His speed is 2 meters per second; 2 m/s
Fun fact: The highest speed reached by a bicycle was 167.04 mph.
3.
AVERAGE SPEED
Average speed is the total distance traveled divided by the total time taken.
Formula: Speed = Total distance/ Total time
A car travels 100 miles in 2 hours. What is the average speed?
The average speed is 5mph
Fun fact: Electricity runs at 186,000 miles per second.
4.
VELOCITY
Velocity is the speed of an object in a particular direction
Formula: Velocity= Speed/Time
The train went west at 200mph in 4 hours. What is its Velocity?
The train went 50mph west.
Fun fact: The earths velocity is always changing.
5.
ACCELERATION
Acceleration is the rate at which velocity changes over time.
Formula: Acceleration= final velocity- starting velocity/ time
A car accelerates from rest to a speed of 36km/h in 20 seconds. What is the acceleration of the car in m/s 2?
The car accelerates .5 m/s2
Fun fact: A decrease in speed is called deceleration.
6.
NET FORCE
Net force is the combination of all the forces acting on an object.
Formula: Net force= Force1 + Force2 + ... + ForceN
You and your brother a pushing your car with a dead battery with 20N and 25N in the same direction.
What is the net force applied in the car? ; 45N
Fun fact: Net force is Isaac Newton's second law of motion.
