Global Barbie

A. There are many cultural differences between Iran and America such as, while Americans are directed more towards immediate family, Iranian people are more towards extended families. In American culture, marriage is a bond between two people, While in Iranian culture it is the coming together and bond between two families. Looking at these examples it is obvious that the major difference between the two is the family connection and relationship.

B. When people see Barbie, they see more than just a doll made for little girls to play with. Especially females, they see Barbie as an example of what they should look like and that is spreading the wrong message and image to girls all over the country.

C. The Barbie that is popular and well known here in the States was not such a big hit in Japan. There the young girls and women found her scary and unnerving. In order to make Barbie more appealing for the Japanese females, they gave her a softer, more family oriented look, as opposed to the outgoing, independent doll we see in America.

A. Globalism emerged during the mid-twentieth century.

B. Through trade and communication around the world, English spread and became a globally used language.

C. Internet sped up connection all over the world. It made it easier for people on opposite sides of a country, continent, or even the world to communicate and get messages to one another.

A. The status of women continued to change after WWII. The were able to work in places other that just at home and were even starting to gain more rights nationally.

B. During the second half of the twentieth century, women fought for voting rights and working rights. They wanted to play an equal role in society and they were diligently fighting for it.

C. When seeing that the Civil Rights movements was giving more and more rights to African Americans and Native Americans, women believed that they should start fighting for their rights as well. They believed they were just as deserving of them as all the men in the country.
