PRESENTATION OUTLINE

I CHOOSE TO PROTEST THE USE OF PAX

by GALACTIC CHIKIN (aka olan)

PAX is not a good way to encourage students to behave well because it feels like a punishment. “Spleems” are the actions that students do that are inappropriate or disruptive.

But some of the teachers take this too far. Take a teacher who works at our school. When I was discussing the problem, she gave our table a “Spleem”. Then my recess was taken.

Also, pax wastes time at the beginning of the year to talk about “Spleems”. I think this time is meant for learning, not a discussion of inqualified rules.

Also, taking time from recess is a common correction for getting a few “Spleems”. But the usual cause of spleems is hyperactivity, which is mostly caused by not getting enough recess.

So taking recess away is not the answer.

I know from other kid's opinions, that they don't like PAX either. They say it really bugs them when they play the harmonica.

Let me explain the harmonica. Teachers use this technique to calm children down by playing a note or more on the harmonica.

Teachers and other administrators say it's supposed to calm kids down, but my friends tell me it riles them up.

Are there any benifits? Well, there are prizes, but they are not very interesting or fun. Many students have gotten bored of "granny's wacky prizes".

So I suggest that we add more "grade specific" prizes, such as social time for 5-6th graders, and more silly games for the lower grades.

Another solution would be to use PAX only in the lower grades, because PAX is trying to help the way the brain develops, whereas in the lower grades.

This is why I choose to protest PAX, and this is my solution to the problem.
