FRUIT BACKGROUND

  • Plantains look like small bananas
  • They grow on a tree in a cluster
  • They grow in tropical areas, and southeastern asia

Historical facts
In 327 BC, Alexander the Great came across plantains in his conquests and introduced them to Europe, Asian traders then transported plantains to all sorts of countries including Malaysia and the Caribbean and even to the coast of Africa and some Southernmost American States.

  • There are lots of vitamins and minerals in plantains
  • There are about 232 calories per cup of plantain
  • Plantains can be cooked in many ways
  • They are often sliced, and fried in a pan
  • They make a good healthy snack

  • Plantains can be stored just like bananas
  • Usually better to buy them green so there is time to eat them
  • They can be stored at room temperature or in the fridge
