Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. (Luke 15:1-7 NIV)
“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:8-10 NIV)
Soul winning means soul searching “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? (Luke 15:8 NIV)
Proper ways to win souls 1. Light the Lamp A. God's Word Your word is a lampfor my feet, a light on my path. (Psalm 119:105 NIV) The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. (Psalm 119:130 NIV)
B. Good Works The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out. (Proverbs 13:9 NIV) In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16 NIV) When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12 NIV)
2. Being out of service - lost sheep is no value to the shepherd - lost coin has no value to the owner - lost sinner can't experience the blessings of God
The sad thing is, many christians and churches, if not all, don't care if people will go to hell. They are so busy fighting with each other. Too busy finding fault with each other.
