PRESENTATION OUTLINE

WHAT IS COPYRIGHT?

Federal Copyright Laws grant authors and artists exclusive rights to benefit from their work

Copyright is one area of law protecting intellectual property, along with trademark and patent law.

WHAT IS COPYRIGHTABLE?

ORIGINAL AUTHORSHIP, FIXED IN A TANGIBLE MEDIUM OF EXPRESSION
You hold the copyright to original works you set into tangible form. You do NOT have to register a copyright, although you may have some additional legal protections if you do.

If your work is done for an employer or client under certain circumstances, that entity may hold the copyright instead.p
