Biography
Janet Jackson is a musical icon who, by moving away from the shadow of her famous family, was able to shape her own destiny and become one of the most prominent women in popular culture. Her innovative music had a new, sexier style and her stage presence and her dancing abilities were all showcased in her videos. She was the first artist to have seven Top 5 hits from one single and was nominated for an oscar with the song "Away". In January 2002, Janet won an American Music Award for favorite female pop/rock artist. Disaster struck during the Super Bowl of 2004 in which, during a live performance with Justin Timberlake, her breast was exposed to the world. Though this was a terrible incident and Janet stayed low for awhile, she is now coming back strong and has proven that no matter the incident, fame has no shame.

Why is she different?
Janet Jackson is different because she was not just born to be famous. She instead broke away from her family tree to create her own music style and to follow her own path. All the record deals and awards she won were purely because of her talent, not because of who she was. Janet has also sustained her fame and her influence on pop music. She paved the way for other female artists who wanted to develop their own destinies and work hard for their dreams.

What was a turning point in her life?
A huge turning point occurred in 1986 when she released her 3rd album Control. This album sold over 8 million copies worldwide and helped her to come out of the shadow of the Jackson family and be seen as an artist in her own right.

How does this relate to Stargirl?

Both Janet and Stargirl are empowering females who are not afraid to show their own style.
