PATRIOT

BENJAMIN MARTIN

• He was a fictional character in the movie "The Patriot".
• He himself was fictional but he represent in my opinion Horatio Gates.
• This general was liked by the people and gathered militiamen and soldiers.
• The battle at the end of the movie in my opinion was the Battle at Saratoga.

CAPTAIN WILKINS

• Although a small character in the movie the character he portrays is a big part of american history
• Known as the biggest traitor in American history.
• He was a patriot who switched sides and became a loyalist.
• I believe that he was the comic relief the movie needed but more over I believe that he was Benedict Arnold.

COL. WILLIAM TAVINGTON

• This character was based off Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton.
• He served under General Cornwallis
• He believed that people who did not help the British were enemies of England.
• Lt. Col. Tarleton was an extremist but he did not commit the violent acts that the character in the movie portrayed.

JEAN VILLENUVE

• This character is suggestive of Marquis De Lafayette.
• Marquis De Lafayette was known for being a young Frenchmen who lobbied french support during the revolutionary war.
• Jean Villenuve is also suggestive of Friedrich Von Steuben.
• Von Steuben was a Prussian captain who like a drill master trained the militia.

GENERAL CHARLES CORNWALLIS

• General Cornwallis was an educated man who was taught solely the art of war.
• Unlike this movie presents Cornwallis was favored by his men because he fought alongside the men he directed.
• Cornwallis used raw man power to try to turn the tides of the war but he later failed.

NATHANAEL GREENE

• As portrayed in the movie Greene did not trust the militia and used them as decoys and treated them like idiots.
• He was a brilliant General and is partially responsible for turning the tides of the war.
• Nathanael Greene was also a Major General.

CHARLES O'HARA

• He was based off of Brig. General Charles O'Hara who was Cornwallis's second in command.
• In the movie he seemed sarcastic and posh but the real O'Hara was rough and was liked by the men because of his past.
• He had to surrender for Cornwallis because the General was ashamed.

COLONEL HARRY BURWELL

• He was based off of Lt. Col. Henry "Lighthouse Harry" Lee.
• Henry Lee was mostly behind the scenes he helped George Washington and Nathanael Greene.
• Not much history on Henry Lee.
