The Intro and Thesis

The beginning of your paper is your chance to capture the audience's attention through the creativity of your first paragraph and the originality of your thesis statement

The Hook

• an anecdote
• make a controversial or surprising statement about your topic
• Relate your topic to everyday life
• A quote (though this can be unoriginal).

The Summary

• brief, to the point
• one sentence explaining the point of Lord of the Flies
• one-two sentences explaining any characters or events you will discuss in your paper
• This is all the summary you need!

The Thesis

The point of your thesis is to make an argument.

The body of your paper will work to support the thesis:

Proof or evidence are all of your quotes

Analysis explains what the quote is saying and why the quote is important to argue your thesis
