ABIGAIL AND JOHN ADAMS LETTERS

AMERICAN REVOLUTION (1765, 1766)

• Was fought for Independence
• Sick of British taxes
• Wanted to be free from the British
• "Britain passes the Stamp Act, this is the first direct tax on the American colonists and is hotly resisted"

DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

• "We have warned them of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us"
• "We declare, that these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States"
• America officially declares its independence
• People are happy about the independence
• "Had a Declaration of Independency been made seven Months ago, it would have been attended with many great and glorious Effects"

RECAP OF READINGS

• Everyone wanted more freedom and independence
• Everyone was sick of British taxes, wanted independence from the British
• After the declaration of independence was finally declared, Americans were overjoyed

• America won the war
• America gained independence because of the declaration and the war

SO WHAT?

• Declaring Independence was good
• Being independent gives you more freedom and choice
• The people were free
• America could finally have its own government and make its own choices

FIGHTING FOR INDEPENDENCE

• Fighting for independence is very important
• If Americans didn't take a stand back then, we might not even be independant
• Standing up for themselves is what made the declaration of independants happen, and what made the war a victory

CONCLUSION

• Americans wanted independence as soon as possible
• The American revolution was fought for Independence and freedom from taxes
• The declaration of independence finally declared independence for America
• This was a great step for the future America, people were grateful to have independence
• Fighting for independence is great and extremely important
