It has negative health effects

  • Medication adherence- 1 or more medications, on certain disabilities (Hilt, 2014; Van de Ven, 2013)
  • Negative side effects (Handen and Gilchrist, 2006; Shneider, 2014)
  • Domino Effect on future generations (Baker, 2013)

Counterclaims

  • Not every medication works for everybody
  • The positive effects outweigh the negative ones

It causes setbacks in education

  • Health (physical and mental) affects learning (Handen and Gilchrist, 2006; Schneider, 2014)
  • Behavior can become a (worse) problem-especially with ADHD cases (Berl, 2013)

Counterclaims

  • You just have to know the right dosage to use on each child

It can lead to Drug Addiction

  • Stimulants are easy to misuse (Kaminer, 2013; Drug facts, 2015)
  • The longer one is on medication, the more dependent they become and the harder it is to stop using them (Baker, 2013; K
  • "Prescription drugs, after alcohol and marijuana, are the most abused drugs" (DrugFacts.com)

Conclusion

  • We need to be more careful about when we put children on medication
  • We need to make sure we explore all other options before medication

My Process

  • Was easy to find sources (all but website from Cook Library)
  • Once I had sources organized, paper came easily
  • The presentation was not difficult except I didn't like thi site that much
