MOON FORMING THEORY

  • People have different opinions on the moon creation, but the one that is most accepted is
  • Accretion: this explains how the moon was formed when the Earth was and it just broke off and then
  • Went into orbit

MOTION AFFECT VIEW

  • The moon's orbit and roation on its axis takes the same amount of time
  • Therefore, we always see the same side

WHAT CAUSES THE PHASES?

  • The phases are determined by the sunlight and where it hits the moon
  • It has a cycle that we see depending on where it is

WANING

  • The moon is waning when its decreasing until the new moon

WAXING

  • The moon is waxing when its increasing until the full moon

LUNAR AND SOLAR ECLIPSE

  • Lunar- when the moon passes directly behind the Earth (top)
  • Solar- moon passes between the sun and the earth, blocking out the sunlight(bottom)

OCEAN TIDES

  • The moons gravitational pull affects the tides on Earth.
  • There are two tides: Spring- moon, sun, earth are aligned(which are strong)
  • Neap- which are weaker (perpendicular) (bottom pic)

MOON PHASES

  • There are 8 moon phases
