PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The Constitutional Convention
Who was at the Convention?
- There were 55 delegates at the Constitutional Convention
- There were no women, slaves, or any lower class people at the Convention
- Some famous people there included Ben Franklin, James Madison, George
- Washington, and Alexander Hamilton
- Some people that were not there were Thomas Jefferson, and Samuel Adams
What was the Constitutional Convention for?
-The Convention was to form new guidelines or rules for the government because the old rules (Articles of Confederation) did not work as well as they planned
Why didn't the Articles of Confederation work?
-The Articles of Confederation did not work because on paper it seemed like they had enough power but when it came to reality they did not have enough power and little money
Was anyone against the Constitutional Convention?
-Yes, the people that were against this were called anti federalists. They were against this because they thought that it gave the government too much power. The solution to this was to make a bill called the bill of rights which was basically commandments that the government had to follow.
Where was the Convention held?
-The Convention was held in Philadelphia from May to September of 1787 at the Pennsylvania state house which is now known as Independence hall
My Reaction
-I thought that this was a really cool subject to learn about, especially to learn about their first shot at a government in the articles of confederation! It was also cool to try to think what the U.S. would be like today if this convention never even happened.
