HOW IT WORKS

  • The dermis is filled with tiny nerve endings
  • Nerve endings tell you what you come in contact with
  • They do this by carrying information to the spinal cord
  • The spinal cord sends it to the brain and the brains decides how to react
  • It senses hot or cold, pain, pressure etc

TOUCH

  • Called Somatosensory system
  • Sensory receptors cover skin, muscles, bones, joints ,and organs
  • Uses the central nervous system, peripheral system, and sensory system
  • Neurons are sent from the receptors to brain
  • Uses hair follicles as well to feel touch

FACTS

  • The most sensitive areas are the hands, face, neck, tongue, and fingertips
  • There are more then 100 touch receptors in each fingertip
  • You have more pain nerve endings than anything else
  • First sense to develop in humans
