BOER GOATS

  • You will learn about Goats, Generally boer goats.

BASIC FACTS

  • Weaned around 3-6 months after birth.
  • They DO NOT eat tin cans, clothing,garbage,they don't climb on cars.
  • If you have a good stable area for them,they won't climb on your cars.
  • Of corse they will climb on your cars if you don't have a stable pen for them.

ANATOMY

  • There hooves have two parts to them,almost like they're split
  • They only have teeth in the front bottom, and in the back they have top+bottom
  • Boer Goats (and all goats) have 189 bones
  • He is trimming the goats hooves in the picture below.

SENCES

  • They can distinguish different colors-responding best to orange worst to blue
  • Very selective to a range of sound from high pitched squeals from there kids
  • To snorted or stamping on the ground.
  • Goats have a keen sense of smell which aids in diet selection
  • Goats will not eat moldy or musty feed.

  • And then seem to be more palatable.
  • Goats can feel the smallest amount of pressure.
  • They can feel a tiny fly or mosquito.
  • Goats are pretty sensitive when you touch them.

YOUNG

  • 1-4 is the average amount of young a boer goat will have
  • Baby goats are called kids. Act of birth is called kidding
  • When a doe is pregnant they need lots of nutrients.
  • Restation period is approximately 150 days.

  • Diarrhea should not be considered an illness but it IS deadly
  • When one goat gets it, that goat can pass It and...
  • It can wipe out your heard
  • They need quite a bit of room to Rome around so make sure
  • To have a big area for them.
