HOW IT ALL STARTED

  • My father's dream was to start a U.S. Colony, he died trying to fulfill that
  • Then I took over
  • I made an agreement with Mexican officials
  • Then I got 300 families to come

THE PEOPLE

  • Of the people that came some were American and some were tejanos
  • Tejanos are Texans of Mexican descent
  • The Tejanos and the Americans had many complaints, and some were about each other
  • Because of the complaints about each other, Mexican officials closed off immigration
  • That caused even more complaints, so I went to go talk to the Mexican officials

  • General Santa Anna had 6,000 troops vs. the 180 Texan volunteers
  • The battle lasted for 12 days in San Antonio
  • Then Santa Anna ordered his troops to attack
  • That lasted for 90 minutes, every Texan died

SAM HOUSTON

  • Sam Houston was the commander of the Texas revolutionary army
  • General Santa Anna and his troops pushed on
  • Sam Houston lured them eastward
  • That strategy made it harder for Santa Anna to supply his army

SURPRISE ATTACK

  • Santa Anna's troops were up all night expecting an attack at night
  • When no attack came, they were very tired and relaxed
  • Later that afternoon, Sam Houston led a surprise attack
  • They defeated Santa Anna and his troops
