31,000 square miles approximately the size of Main. Largest freshwater lake in the world as of surface area. usually 700 feet deep, deepest spot 1,332 feet. Has a shoreline of 1,126 miles. Formed from glaciers and volcanos. Minnesota, Wisconsin, and michigan border Lake Superior.

PROS/CONS

  • Positive: became home to millions of citizens and Canadians from its natural beauty.
  • Positive:Attracts tourism which helps the states that border the lake with money.
  • Negative: toxic pollution such as dioxin, mercury, and PCBs cause problems.
  • Negative: fishermen are limited on specific fish amounts.

Human problems
Air contaminates from thousands of miles away are entering the lake. America and Canada have agreed to a demonstration program. Over fishing have decimated the fish populations.
