His mother, Mary Arden, was related to a family that owned large estates.
His father was a leatherworker for the Queen, a member of the town council, and briefly a mayor.

Married Ann Hathaway at age 18. Had one daughter, Susanna a year later. Then had twins born in 1585. One twin died at age 11

- Wrote 37 or 38 plays
- Helped stage his plays
- Helped manage acting troupe
- Part owner of Old Globe Theater
1593-1594
- Theaters closed because of plague
- Wrote narrative poetry
Some believe that his plays were written by a lord who did not want to be associated with the theater.
Others believed that his young apprentices wrote his plays.
The reasoning behind this is he didn't have an education, little is known of his life, no written manuscript exists of his work . . .
However, it is widely accepted that he did write his plays.
The Tempest was written in 1610 or 1611.
It is considered the last play written entirely by Shakespeare.
