Tumblr is a mircoblogging platform that started its run in February 2007. The founder and CEO is David Karp.

David Karp began his career working for Frederator Studios as an intern. Frederator is responsible for cartoons such as: Fairly OddParents, ChalkZone, My Life as a Teenage Robot, and Adventure Time.

While working for them, Karp started to work for UrbanBaby, an online parenting forum, until it was sold to CNET. Using the money he earned from his sales, Karp and former CTO, Marco Armet began working with tumblelogs, which are short-form blogs. The two began working on their own tumblelogs on Davidville.

Within two weeks, over 75,000 users signed in to Davidville since its launch. The two owners changed the name from Davidville to Tumblr (styled as tumblr.) as a homage to the tumblelogs.

In 2008, Karp invested 25% of his company for a $4.5 million round from Union Square Ventures and Spark Capital a year after Tumblr had started. In 2010, Armet left Tumblr to later create Instapaper.
