  • Bill Clinton was the 42nd president of the United States from 1993 to 2001 for two terms.
  • He was the governor of Arkansas from 1979 to 1981 and 1983 to 1992.in 1998 he was impeached based on perjury and obstruction of justice, related to the Lewinsky scandal.

GEORGE W. BUSH

  • George W. Bush he was the 43rd U.S president.
  • His dad was the 41st president of the United States.
  • He launched the war on terror in response to the September 11,2001 terrorist attack on the twin towers in New York City.
  • Some of Bush's policies were to prohibit same-sex marriage, the patriot act, the no child left behind act, the partial-birth abortion ban act,and funding for the AIDS relief program known as PEPFAR.

JOHN PAUL II

  • He was born on May 18 1920, and died April 2 2005.
  • He was a Roman Catholic priest, bishop, and Cardinal and became pope in 1978.
  • He said "all human life, from the moments of conception and through all subsequent stages, is sacred."
  • He was declared a saint on April 27 2014.

PRINCESS DIANA

  • She was one of the most recognizable figures of the late 20th century.
  • Princess Diana got married to Charles, Prince of Wales, and took place on July 29 1981 at St. Paul's cathedral, London,England.
  • On August 31 1997, Diana was fatally injured in a car crash in the Pont de l'alma road tunnel in Paris, it also caused the deaths of her companion Dodi Fayed and the driver,Henri Paul.
  • She had two kids, prince Harry and Prince William.

TIM BERNERS-LEE

  • He is the computer scientist who invented the World Wide Web, or Internet.
  • Tim Berners-Lee was born in London on June 8 1955.
  • He attended Queen's college,Oxford University in 1973.
  • He graduated in 1976 with an honors degree.
  • The first website was built at CERN in December 1990 and was launched on the Internet in August 1991.
  • In 1999 Berners-Lee was labeled by time magazine as "one of the 100 greatest minds of the century".
  • He was knighted in 2004 by Queen Elizabeth II for services to the global development of the Internet.

9-11 AND THE WAR ON TERRORISM

  • On September 11 2001 four commercial passenger jet airliners, hijacked by 19 terrorist linked to al-Qaeda, crashed into two towers of the World Trade Center in New York.
  • A total of 2977 people died.
  • Osama Bin Laden was the person who planned the attacks.
  • After 10-year manhunt, Bin Laden was killed by American special forces in a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan on May 2 2011.
  • The construction of the new one World Trade Center began on April 27 2006, and was completed on November 3 2014.

NAFTA/GLOBALIZATION

  • In1994 (NAFTA) North American Free Trade Agreement came into effect.
  • It created free trade and economic growth between Canada, United States, and Mexico.
  • NAFTA agreement include the elimination of tariffs and the reduction of many non-tariff barriers to trade.
  • NAFTA included a dispute settlement mechanism for the fair and expeditious resolution of trade disagreement.

GULF WAR

  • The gulf war was a result of the Iraqi army's accusation of Kuwait in 1990
  • Coalitions military forces were from U.S., Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom,Egypt, and others.
  • The world costed $60 billion USD.
  • The Iraqi military was forced out of Kuwait of February 19 1991.

COLLAPSE OF THE SOVIET UNION

  • In 1991 15 soviet republics (Ukraine, the Russian Fredericton, Belarus, America, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Georgia) met in the Kazakh city of alma-Ata and announced that they would no longer be part of the Soviet Union.
  • The soviet republics wanted to leave the union because the Communist party demanded the allegiance of every Russian citizen, it also controlled every aspect of political and social life.
  • People who argued against the polices were arrested and sent to labor camps or executed.
  • Mikhail Gorbachev was the president of the USSR, he resined after the Soviet Union.he received the noble peace prize for ending the Cold War.

  • In 1839 Britain invaded China and occupied Hong Kong.
  • Hong Kong is an island of the cost of southeast China. it became a flourished east- west trading center.
  • On July 1 1997 hong kong reverts back to Chinese rules ending the British ruling.

OKLAHOMA CITY FEDERAL BUILDING BOMBING

  • The Oklahoma City bombing was a domestic bomb attack by Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols.
  • The bombing killed 168 people and injured more than 680, and destroyed 324 buildings and also burned 86 cars.causing at least $652 million worth of damage.
  • On April 19 1995 the bombs placed in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City.
  • The terrorist hated the federal government.

PALESTINIAN INTIFADA

  • The intifada started in December 1987 and ended in 1993 with the signing of the Oslo Accords.
  • It started after a traffic incident when an Israeli defense forces truck collided with a cevilian car killing four Palestinians.
  • Protests started against the Israeli administration.
  • Palestinians refused to work in Israeli settlement or an Israeli product, refused to pay taxes, refused to drive Palestinian cars with Israeli licenses, graffiti barricading and throwing of stones at the Israelis.

NELSON MANDELA ELECTED President OF SOUTH AFRICA

  • Nelson Mandela was elected president of South Africa in 1994 to 1999.
  • He was a major opponent apartheid
  • He became the first black president of his country.
  • He received the Noble Prize for peace in 1993.

  • One of the many movies in the 1990's was home alone.
  • Home alone was released November 16,1990.
  • This movie is a family comedy about an eight year old Kevin McCallister.
  • This whole movie is about how Kevin McCallister deals with staying home alone.

OLYMPICS

  • The Olympics happens every four years with more than 200 nations participating.
  • Over 13,000 athletes compete at the summer and Winter Olympic Games in 33 different sports and nearly 400 events. The first, second, and the third-place finishers in each event receive Olympic medals: gold, silver,and bronze, respectively.
  • The first Olympics covered by U.S. television was the 1960 summer games in Rome by CBS.
  • A record 202 countries participated in the 2004 Olympic summer games in the Athens.
