in whose image?

Value, Capacity
Every person has value and capacity because every person is created in the image of God. As a result, everyone has something to offer. No one comes to the table with nothing to contribute.

The fall

Affected ALL
Mankind's alienation from God means that ALL of us have been affected - so ALL of us struggle. Just as no one comes to the table empty-handed, no one comes to the table without needs. All of us need to grow and develop. We all have weaknesses and struggles regardless of our material wealth.

dominion

Stewards in Relationship
In God's original design, man existed in close relationship with God - walking and talking with him in the cool of the day. And God had directed man to take dominion over creation. Man was to steward creation. He was to make good use of everything that his Father God had created.

Poverty

More than money?
We typically think of poverty in terms of material assets. However, as a result of the Fall, mankind experiences poverty not only in terms of material assets. He experiences poverty in every aspect of life. All his relationships are affected - his relationship with God, with himself, with others and with the rest of the created world.

poverty in relations with others

Lack of social network
The degree to which we all experience relational poverty varies. Many of us in higher socioeconomic classes have a large network of friends. We rely on this network much more than we know. We use it to obtain jobs, to "grease the skids", to get advice, to get help when we are in trouble..... The poor of the world almost always have limited social networks. As a result, the poor struggle to accomplish things that for the non-poor seem simple.
