Assurbanipal

  • Was the last great king of Assyria
  • His name means "the god Ashur is creator of an heir"
  • Treated his people fairly but was known cruelty by those he defeted
  • He achieved the greatest territorial expansion of the Assyrian empire
  • Which included Babylon, Prussia, Syria, and Egypt.

ASSURBANIPAL

  • Birth in 685B.C and died 627B.C
  • Was not only a feared warrior in battle but was also a patron of arts
  • One of the best known cruel thing he did was one kings he defeated he
  • Put a dog chain through his jaw and made him live in a kennel after capture.
  • He established the first library of over 30,000 clay tablets in the capital Nineveh

ASSURBANIPAL

  • His people thought he was a strong leader
  • They thought he was strong because was rarely defeated
  • His people thought he was smart because he built the first library
