PRESENTATION OUTLINE

EGG OSMOSIS EXPERIMENT

BY OLIVIA HUNT

PURPOSE

  • Observe the effects of vinegar, corn syrup, and water on an egg.
  • Relate this to osmosis in cells

MATERIALS

  • Two eggs
  • Two beakers
  • Vinegar
  • Corn syrup
  • Water
  • Triple beam balance
  • Measuring Tape

HYPOTHESIS

I believe the egg in #1 beaker will grow but not as much as the egg in beaker #2

Egg Measurements- Day 1
Egg 1
Mass: 57 8/10g
Circumference: 12 cm
Egg 2
Mass: 60 g
Circumference: 13 cm

DAY 1 ANSWERS

  • We wanted to see the result of particles travelling through the cell membrane, and the vinegar softens the membrane
  • Hopefully, the shell will dissolve.

Both eggs are in vinegar

Measuring the weight of the egg

QUIESTIONS DAY 2

  • It increased. The acid of the vinegar sofftened the shell, making it more susceptible to absorb.
  • Its mass will increase more than egg#2 since water is easier to absorb than corn syrup.
  • Its mass may increase, but not much

IT CLEARLY COLLAPSED...

THIS IS CLYDE.

CLYDE #2

HE'S EITHER CRYING OR SMILING...

OH, NORO!

DAVID KILLED IT!
