Where were integers discovered

  • Integers were first mentioned in China
  • They were mentioned in China in 200 BC
  • They were later mentioned in India
  • They were mentioned in India in 620-630AD

When integers where made

  • Integers where invented in 1563
  • Integers were stated in the 7th century
  • In 1758 a dissertation on the use of the negative sign in algebra was made
  • The dissertation was made by Francis Maseres

How are integers used

  • They are used to tell the temperature
  • For example "On Sunday it will be -25 degrees"
  • They are also used to tell the height of a building up and downward
  • They are used to tell how much money you have in the bank weather - or +
  • Negative integers can represent debits and + integers represent credits

Why were integers invented

  • They were invented for many reasons
  • Chinese and Indians use to work on numbers but always had
  • problems with negative solutions
  • Diophantus in the third century A.D. called the equation 4x + 20=0--
  • an absurd equation because it had the negative solution

Integer examples

  • -3-5=-8
  • -4(-8)=32
  • (-4)(-12)=48
  • -15-6=-21
  • -2(3)=-6

integers quiz

  • -3(9)=?
  • -4+-8=?
  • -7-8=?
  • -15+6=?
  • 3-5=?
