Company of Choice
I'd like to be creative director of Nylon magazine. It's a fashion & music publication founded in April of 1999.

Why I chose it?
I think a creative director would be a good fit for me because it encompasses several of my favorite things, fashion, communication and versatility. I'd be extremely bored doing the same thing everyday and in being a creative director you have to be able to quickly adapt to the new challenges that come with everyday.

Degree Plan & How I Plan to get there.

  • First Obtain Apparel & Textile Merchandising Degree
  • I plan on doing that at either UT, Baylor, or UNT
  • When I leave college I'm going to do the Neiman Marcus profession development program.
  • Im going to spend around 5-6 years buying, from Neiman Marcus to Bergdorf Goodman in NYC
  • Then I'm going to become assistant fashion editor at Nylon, and from there I'll be head fashion editor & then creative director

SALARIES

  • Asst. Buyer- 45,000
  • Buyer- 84,000
  • Asst. fashion editor- 67,000-85,000
  • Fashion Editor- 90,000
  • Creative Director- 132,000

Benefits
It's a career in which I won't be self-employed, so I would reap the insurance and retirement of any of job. 401k, PTO, Health & Dental insurance etc.

Etc.
I'd begin my career working in Dallas because that's where Neiman Marcus is based. But after I began buying for Bergdorf Goodman I'd have to relocate to NYC. And because Nylon is based there, and it's my dream city I'd continue to reside there. As for the pros, I'd be getting to do what I love everyday, and I'd be able to travel and experience more cultures, and places. It isn't a career I'd have to pretend I was interested in. To me there are little cons, but I guess one could be that people in the fashion industry tend to be a bit materialistic, and I'd have to work pretty long days.
