POINT-SLOPE FORM

Y-Y1=M(X-X1)

  • (2,5) m=7
  • Y-5=7(x-2)
  • Y-5=7x-14
  • Y=7x-9

PARALLEL AND

PERPENDICULAR LINES

PARALLEL LINES HAVE THE SAME SLOPE

  • Y=5x+3
  • Y=5x-7
  • The number next to the x determines it
  • m1=m2 m=slope
  • They both have a slope of 5

PERPENDICULAR LINES HAVE OPPOSITE RECIPROCAL SLOPES

  • Y=2x-4
  • Y=-1/2x+8
  • m1= -1/m2
  • The slopes 2 and -1/2 are perpendicular
