As part of Child Safety Week, here are 10 ways you can keep your children safe at home or in the big wide world
Children can drown in less that 5cm of water. Never leave your child alone near water.
Keep small and harmful items out of harm’s way to avoid the risk of choking, poisoning and the blocking of airways.
Fit stair gates to keep children safe in dangerous areas such a doorways to kitchens and stairways.
Fire kills...Not just children but the whole family. It’s important to have smoke alarms fitted and to check them weekly
Keep kettles, hot drinks and pans away from the edge of hobs and worktops
Keep cleaning materials, medicines, cosmetics and other chemicals locked out of the reach of children.
Electrical sockets are at an inviting height for tiny fingers. Use plasic socket covers to take away the temptation
Even the quietest roads can be dangerous,
teach your children the Green Cross Code
To avoid the risk of strangulation tie back blinds cords and chains, never using a dummy string and keep draw-string bags out of the reach of curious little hands.
Use hats and suncream and stay out of the midday sun. Make sure your children drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.
