personification: is giving a non human thing (plants, animals, objects, etc.) human traits (qualities, feelings, ideas and/or characteristics.)
Example
The plant hissed at me because I didn't give it water.

hyperbole: A figure of speech using exaggeration.
Example:
I was so hungry I could have eaten a horse.

Metaphor: A comparison of two (or more) unlike without using the word like or as usually use the words is or are.
Example:
Her eyes are diamonds.

simile: A comparison of two (or more) unlike things using like or as.
Example:
He is as fast as a cheetah.

Idiom: A phrase or expression which means something different from what the words actually say.
Example:
He sleeps like a log.

Onomatopoeia: The use of words the sound like the noise they name or.... words that imitate sounds.
Example:

Alliteration: is the repetition of initial (first) sounds in two or more neighboring words.
