GERARDUS MERCATOR
- Born march 5,1512
- His family moved from Germany to Flanders shortly before her was born.
- Educated in hertogenbosch(Netherlands) recieving training in Christian do train, dialect, and Latin.
- In 1530 he entered the catholic university of leaven to study humanities and philosophy
- Died December 2, 1594

ACOMPLISHMENTS
- Gerardus was a Flemish cartographer whose important innovation was a map, known as the Mercator projection
- Gave an accurate ratio of longitude and latitude
- Also introduced the term atlas
IMPACTS
- Wrote the codes for maps we use today
- His map converts the spherical world into a 2 demential map
- Known as the prince of modern geographers in his time.
