CULTURE

  • Things such as language, religion, etc. that an ethnic group share
  • People are united by culture, even if they don't know each other

ANIMISM

  • The belief in the existence of individual spirits that inhabit
  • natural objects and phenomena
  • Animism might seem ridiculous to some people

HINDUISM

  • Hinduism is a main religion in South Asia, and believes
  • in reincarnation and many supreme forces
  • Hinduism believes in many gods

BUDDHISM

  • Buddhism is based on the teachings
  • of the "Buddha," aka Siddharatha
  • Gautama, who became enlightened
  • Buddhism is a very complicated religion

JUDAISM

  • The religion of the Jews, which can
  • trace it's roots back to Abraham,
  • and believe in one all powerful
  • god
  • Judaism is an old religion

CHRISTIANITY

  • A religion is based off of
  • the teachings of Jesus of
  • Nazareth
  • Christianity is a major religion

ISLAM

  • The faith of the Muslims,
  • as revealed through
  • Muhammad as a prophet of Allah
  • Islam has a negative connotation today

SIKHISM

  • A monotheistic religion founded
  • by Guru Nanak, who's teachings
  • are the base of the religion
  • Sikhism may seem something like Islam

  • An area that is modernized,
  • and includes cites, etc.
  • Dallas is an urban city

RURAL

  • An area that has not been
  • urbanized, such as a farm
  • A farm is a great example of a rural area

MULTICULTURAL

  • Constituting of several cultural/ethnic
  • groups within a society
  • The US is very multicultural

GENDER ROLES

  • A set of social behaviors/norms that
  • are usually considered appropriate for the genders
  • Women usually take care of the kids, and men
  • usually work

  • People who have the same social,
  • economic, or educational status
  • People with the same social class
  • usually hang out together

SOCIAL MOBILITY

  • The movement of individuals/groups
  • in social standing social position
  • Social mobility could be moving from anything
